Use a content distribution system such as OneLoad from TubeMogul to upload your video résumé to sites like YouTube, instead of uploading your video to the 20-plus available video-sharing sites one at a time.
After you create your free TubeMogul account, you can upload your video, description, and tags. From there, TubeMogul lets you choose which sites you want to syndicate to. Note that you need to have accounts with each of those sites. Then with one click, your video will be on 20 or so video-sharing sites. Take the time to create accounts on at least five different sharing sites, if not all of them.
YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world. If you post your video on YouTube, engineer as many views and comments as you can. When hiring managers see that your résumé is watched and engages people, your social value increases. Send an e-mail to your friends and family, asking them to watch your video and leave a comment.
In addition to YouTube and generic video-sharing sites, consider uploading your video to résumé-specific sites. Following are some recommendations:
BlazitResume: This online résumé site allows you to upload your video to its player.
Jobster: Registered Jobster users can post YouTube-hosted videos by including a link to the YouTube version.
MyWorkster: MyWorkster users can link to a video résumé from their profile and share it with networking contacts and potential employers.
Resumebook.tv: This site gives you advice on making a video résumé and lets you upload your video résumé for free. The site’s résumé management system helps you make your video résumé accessible to employers.
RezBuzz: This site connects recruiters with talent and allows you to host your video.
uBoast: uBoast allows you to create a (free) professional page that includes an integrated video résumé.
Innovate CV: Innovate CV lets you upload your video directly into a slick-looking online résumé.
VisualCV: On VisualCV, you can manage your entire professional portfolio via an easy-to-use interface and embed your YouTube video.
WorkBlast: At WorkBlast, you can upload up to three versions of your résumé (video or text) for free.
All this uploading may seem like a lot of work, but after all you’ve done to produce a killer video résumé, you may as well take an hour to make sure as many people as possible see it. That’s right: You can set up accounts and upload your video to all these sites in less than an hour. It’s totally worth your time!
