Staying in constant communication with your eBay buyers will make them feel more secure with you and with buying on eBay. When you receive payment and have shipped the item, sending a short note helps to instill loyalty in your customer. You can even send out the automatic e-mail from UPS or FedEx announcing the shipment tracking number. You can additionally have PayPal send out an e-mail by inserting the tracking number into the PayPal payment record. Because PayPal e-mails aren't very personalized, consider following up with a more personal note, like the following:
Subject: SHIPPED: eBay item: eBay Listings That Sell For Dummies
Hi (insert buyer's name)!
Thank you for buying my eBay Listings That Sell For Dummies and paying so promptly! I'm looking forward to a smooth transaction and positive feedback for both of us.
If you paid through PayPal, please check your PayPal account because I have posted your package's delivery confirmation number in our transaction record. Please note that if you purchased shipping insurance, you will not see the insurance reflected on the package. I insure my packages with a private insurance policy from U-Pic. (More information is on my Web site.)
If there is any question when the package arrives, PLEASE e-mail me immediately. Your satisfaction is my goal, and I'm sure any problem can be easily taken care of. Please let me know when the package arrives so that we can exchange some very positive feedback!

Good customer service will get you many repeat customers and lots of positive feedback. Good communication will head off problems before they start. If your customers have received communications from you during the entire transaction, they'll be more likely to discuss a glitch with you rather than make a knee-jerk reaction and leave negative feedback.
