Lync Online is a powerful communication platform that is used for online meetings and instant communication. Lync installs as a client on your computer and has its own requirements for installation. The following table outlines the Lync installation requirements.
Operating System | Processors | Memory | Browser |
---|---|---|---|
Windows 7 | Intel Pentium 4 + | 2 gigabytes (Windows 7 or Windows Vista) | Internet Explorer 7 + |
Windows Vista | AMD Athlon 64 + | 1 gigabyte (Windows XP) | Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 + |
Windows XP with SP3 or later | |||
Windows Server 2008 with SP2 or later | |||
Windows Server 2003 with SP2 or later |
If you are using an authenticated HTTP proxy with Exchange Online, then you will need to use Internet Explorer 8 or higher. In addition, for video, the processor requirement is at least a dual core 1.9 GHz, quad core 2.0 GHz processor, or the latest version of VGA or HD.
In addition to installation requirements, Lync uses a high amount of bandwidth for communication using voice, video, and screen sharing. For these reasons, Microsoft recommends a fairly robust computer setup with at least a 128 megabyte graphics card and a microphone, speakers, and webcam. For more specific and up-to-date requirements check out the Lync requirements page.
