How to Find Your PC’s IP Address in Windows XP

When your computer is on an Ethernet network, it has an IP address that tells the network where to find that PC. It helps traffic flow between computers because each one has its own IP address. If you need to know what your PC’s IP address is, you can find it using Windows XP network troubleshooting tools.

In Windows XP, follow these steps to discover the IP address assigned to your PC:

  1. Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.

  2. Open the Network Connections icon.

  3. Open the icon representing your PC’s network connection.

When you have more than one icon, just pick the main one.

  4. In the Status dialog box, click on the Support tab.

The Connection Status area lists the IP address.

  5. Click the Close button.

If your PC features two network connections, each one has its own IP address. So a laptop PC that has both wireless and wired network adapters features two IP addresses when both adapters are connected to a network. You can repeat the steps for each network icon to check the IP address for each connection.
