Christmas Tree-Trimming Party for 20 Kids and Parents
Popcorn-cranberry garlands can be used to decorate your Christmas tree, but don’t stop there. Drape the garlands over the bushes and trees in your yard and the birds will thank you; the garlands last however long the birds allow them to. Making these Christmas decorations is a great, easy-to-do project to share with the kids.
Use fresh cranberries; frozen and defrosted cranberries are too soft and wet.
Gather these supplies:
Strong thread, such as nylon or waxed cotton; needle
1 cup popped popcorn per 3 to 4 feet of thread
3/4 cup cranberries per 3 to 4 feet of thread
Then follow these steps to make your Christmas garland:
Place the popcorn in one bowl and the cranberries in another for easy access.
Thread the needle and make a large knot about 6 inches from the end of the thread.
Sew a garland of popcorn and cranberries, in any pattern you like. Place a knot after the last piece.
Air-popped popcorn is less greasy and more pleasant to handle than oil-popped popcorn.
You can make this garland as long or as short as you like. Provided that there’s adult supervision, kids should be able to sew this garland together.
