How to Block an Email Sender

Whether it’s unwanted email, spam, junk mail, or perhaps a persistent relative or acquaintance who won’t stop sending you “cute” stuff, most email programs have an easy way to block them. Perhaps the quickest way to deal with unwanted email is to place a message sender on a Block Senders list. It’s an easy thing to do, though the method varies depending on the email program.

In Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail, and Outlook Express follow these steps:

  1. Open the message you want to block.

  2. Add the sender to the blocked senders list.

    • In Windows Live Mail, choose Actions→Junk E-Mail→Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.

    • In Windows Mail, choose Message→Junk E-Mail→Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.

    • In Outlook Express, choose Message→Block Sender.

  3. Click the Yes button or click OK.

Now feel free to read your email without being bothered by the sender. Then again, it probably won’t be the last time you need to block a sender.

When your email program lacks a Block Sender feature, you have to use the feature that filters email or creates a mail rule. Simply create a rule that identifies the sender, or the sender’s domain, and then redirect any message from that user into the Deleted Items or Trash folder.
