Laptop monitors need cleaning more often than regular desktop monitors and tablet monitors need cleaning even more often. Cleaning the laptop screen is easy, but be sure to do it right or you will cause damage. When you feel like cleaning the laptop screen, you have three options:
Use a lint-free cloth to dry-clean the screen. All laptops use LCD monitors. These monitors are very fussy about liquids. A lint-free cloth helps get the dust off the screen and can also help remove finger smudges and some (but not all) sneeze globs.
Use a damp sponge to wipe the screen. Use only water to make the sponge damp. Wring out all the moisture from the sponge before you wipe the screen. Rub gently, lovingly.
Get an LCD monitor cleaning kit. By getting a cleaning kit, perhaps the best option, you receive a lint-free cloth as well as a package containing a damp towelette moistened with the official LCD monitor-cleaning solution.
As with cleaning the case, you should turn off the laptop, and even unplug it, before you clean the monitor. In fact, you can more easily see what you’re cleaning when the screen is off.
After the screen is clean, let it dry before you close the lid or use the laptop again.
Never, ever, under any circumstances, use alcohol or ammonia cleaners on an LCD screen. Just don’t.
If you’re curious: Alcohol and ammonia can damage the laptop’s LCD display to the point where the image becomes unreadable. Further, if you have a Tablet PC, the screen’s ability to detect input is greatly diminished by the use of harsh chemicals.
Tablet PCs require more screen cleaning than do standard desktops. That’s because you touch the screen more often when using the laptop in Tablet mode.
The monitor should be completely dry before you close the laptop’s lid.
