How to Find the PIN for Your BlackBerry PlayBook

Every BlackBerry device, smartphone and PlayBook alike, has its very own electronic identification issued by the mothership back at Research in Motion (RIM). This personal identification number (PIN) is part of the security and authentication fortification that makes a BlackBerry a BlackBerry. The PIN ensures that the correct mail is delivered to the proper device.

It is also an element of the communication used for updates to the operating system and the management (and payment) for apps downloaded from BlackBerry App World. And if you use BlackBerry Messenger for instant messaging or Video Chat for visual conferencing, the PIN is an essential part of the process for establishing a link.

A BlackBerry PIN is an eight character hexadecimal (base 16) identification number. The only allowable alphanumerical characters are 0 through 9 and A through F. A hex number of eight characters reaches up to a number in single-digit billions, which should be enough to last for a while.

How do you find the PIN for your BlackBerry PlayBook? It’s listed in many places. When you first register your PlayBook with RIM, you’ll see it listed. If you connect your tablet to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager on a computer, you’ll see the PIN displayed. And then there is this way:

  1. Tap the options icon.

  2. On the left panel, tap About.

  3. If it isn’t already selected, tap the pull-down menu and choose the Hardware tab.

Your PlayBook’s PIN is listed here.
