How to Watch Videos on Your Flip Video Camera

Watching videos you record (or copy to your Flip from your computer) is as simple as pressing your Flip Video camera's Play/Pause button. While you’re watching a video, you do things like adjust the volume level, fast forward or rewind through the video, or skip backward to a previous video or forward to the next saved video.

Basic functions works pretty much the same no matter which Flip camera model you own.

When you watch a video, or browse through your videos to find one you want to watch, your Flip’s screen changes to display information about the video you’re watching, or the videos you browse through, depending on whether you’re watching or browsing your videos.

To watch and control a video, press your Flip’s buttons as follows:

  • Play/Pause: Press to play a selected video, or press and hold to play all the videos saved on your Flip. Press while watching a video to pause the video.

  • Up and Down: Press Up or Down to increase or decrease the playback volume.

  • Left and Right: Press Left to go backward to a previous video, or press Right to skip ahead to the next saved video. Press and hold Left or Right to rewind or fast-forward through a video you’re watching; then let go to resume watching your video.

The information displayed on your Flip’s screen when you watch a video appears when you first start watching your video, or when you pause your video, then disappears a few moments after your video begins playing.

The information that appears during playback includes

  • Remaining time: Counts down the time remaining for the currently playing video.

  • Progress bar: Displays a progress bar and a moving position indicator that tracks the location you’re watching in the overall video.

  • Volume level: Shows the volume level and an indicator that moves up or down when you press the Up or Down buttons to increase or decrease the playback volume.

  • Battery: Indicates your battery’s charge level in the lower-right corner. If the battery icon is flashing, your batteries are too low and need to be recharged (or replaced if you’re using disposable batteries with your Flip Ultra or UltraHD).

To browse through your videos to find a video you want to watch, press your Flip’s buttons as follows:

  • Play/Pause: Press while watching a video to pause the video.

  • Up and Down: Press Up or Down to increase or decrease the playback volume, respectively.

  • Left and Right: Press Left to go backward to the previous video, or press Right to skip forward to the next saved video. (Pressing and holding either button quickly advances backward or forward through all your saved videos.) Press and hold Left or Right to rewind or fast-forward through a video you’re watching; then let go to resume watching your video.

The information you see on your Flip’s screen when you browse through your saved videos includes

  • Time length: Displays the length, in minutes and seconds, of the displayed video.

  • Video number: Displays the number of the displayed video (for instance, Video 6 of 11).

  • Battery: Indicates your battery’s charge level in the lower-right corner. If the battery icon is flashing, your batteries are too low and need to be recharged (or replaced if you’re using disposable batteries with your Flip Ultra or UltraHD).

If you press the Record button while you’re watching a video (by mistake or on purpose), your Flip stops playing the video but doesn’t begin recording a new video until you press the Record button again.
