Construct Points for Geometric Figures with the TI-84 Plus

You can tell the TI-84 Plus calculator where you want to construct a freestanding point in two ways: Use the arrow keys to identify the location of the point, or tell the calculator the coordinates of the point. A freestanding point is not intended to be part of another object such as a point on a line or a point on the circumference of a circle.

Both ways are described in the following steps. To construct a freestanding point, follow these steps:

  1. Press [GRAPH][WINDOW][1] to select the Point tool from the DRAW menu.

“Point” appears in the upper-right corner of the screen.

  2. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the location where you want to construct the point and press [ENTER].

As you move the cursor, the coordinates of its location appear at the bottom of the screen. The point is constructed at the location of the cursor.

After pressing [ENTER] in this step, you can precisely locate the point by giving the calculator the coordinates of that point. You can also label the point.

  3. Press [ENTER] or move the cursor away from the object.

This is a crucial step. If it is not followed, then the last point you constructed may vanish when you ask GeoMaster to perform another operation.

After constructing one point, the Point tool remains active until you deactivate it. So if you want to construct more points, just repeat Steps 2 and 3. When you’re finished using the Point tool, deactivate it by pressing [CLEAR] or by selecting another menu item.
