You found the perfect picture to use in your upcoming presentation. But, it is on a web page. Copy the picture to your computer and you can use it in any other program. It can be done. Here’s the simple process:
Right-click the image.
Choose the command Save Picture As.
The command might be different in browsers other than Internet Explorer. I’ve seen Save Image As in addition to Save Picture As.
Use the Save Picture dialog box to find a location to save the picture.
You can rename the picture as it’s saved to your computer’s storage system. For example, if that presentation picture is named DSC450013.JPG, you can rename it to My Presentation Opener.jpg if you want.
Click the Save button.
The image now exists as a file on your computer.
You can also drag the image from the web page window out onto the desktop or into any open folder window. (You might be prompted to click Yes or No to ensure that dragging the image is okay, which it should be.)
Windows prefers to save images in the Pictures folder, which is My Pictures in Windows XP. If you want to get more organized, you can use subfolders within the Pictures folder.
Some images cannot be saved to disk. These images are protected from being copied or they’re somehow created or displayed in a manner that makes copying impossible.
Don’t bother saving the image if you plan only to email it. Instead, choose the command E-Mail Picture from the menu instead of Save Picture As (refer to Step 2).
It’s okay to copy and use images from the Internet, but keep in mind that many of those images are copyrighted. Under the fair-use laws, you can keep a picture for your own purposes, but you cannot reuse, sell, or otherwise profit from the image.
