How to Make Gluten-Free Tortilla Sticks

These sticks are perfect for gluten-free snacking, but they’re also the perfect accompaniment for soups or a pasta dinner. They’re even great eaten hot from the oven. Beware . . . you can’t eat just one!

For an even tastier treat, sprinkle the sticks with sesame seeds before baking.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 8 minutes

Yield: 20 pieces

Nonstick cooking spray

Two 8-inch rice flour tortillas

2 tablespoons butter, melted

3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg white

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spray a nonstick baking sheet with the nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Brush one side of each tortilla with the melted butter, and then sprinkle it with the cheese. Press the cheese into the tortillas so it sticks.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk the egg white until it’s foamy.

  4. Turn the tortillas over and brush them with the egg white using a pastry brush. Sprinkle the tortillas with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.

  5. With a clean pair of scissors, cut each tortilla into ten 3/4-inch-wide strips. Place the strips with the cheese side down on the baking sheet.

  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes, or until the strips are a light golden brown and crisp.
