When your computer is on an Ethernet network, it has an IP address that tells the network where to find that PC. It helps traffic flow between computers because each one has its own IP address. If you need to know what your PC’s IP address is, you can find it using Windows 7 network troubleshooting tools.
To check the IP address assigned to your computer, follow these steps in Windows 7:
Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
On the right side of the window, choose the link Local Area Connection.
A dialog box appears, listing some brief information about the network connection. But that’s not good enough!
Click the Details button.
You find the PC’s IP address listed as IPv4 IP Address in the Network Connection Details dialog box.
Click the Close button and close the Network and Sharing Center window.
If your PC features two network connections, each one has its own IP address. So a laptop PC that has both wireless and wired network adapters features two IP addresses when both adapters are connected to a network. Repeat the steps for each network icon to check the IP address for each connection.
