Support Office Web Apps with the Right Browser and Devices

Office Web Apps is the cloud version of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. The apps allow users to create high-quality documents, simultaneously make changes to the documents with coauthors, and share these documents from a browser without the need for the desktop application.

Although Office Web Apps from Office 365 run on most tested browsers, the following list is the official Microsoft-supported browsers and their requirements. Chrome is not officially supported but plans are underway to support it soon.

  • Internet Explorer 7 and later on Windows operating systems

  • Safari 4 and later on Mac operating systems

  • Firefox 3.5 and later on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems

You are no longer tethered to your office desk to be productive. In the past, your documents were stored where you last saved them — on a hard drive or on a server. If you need that document, but you’re not at your office, tough luck. With Office Web Apps and Office 365, you can be working from home, at your favorite coffee shop, or even on vacation and still be just as productive as your co-workers in the office.

You can view and make light edits to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files by using Office Web Apps on most smartphones running on various operating systems. Following is Microsoft’s official list of supported mobile devices.

  • Internet Explorer on Windows Mobile® 5/6/6.1/6.5

  • Safari 4 on iPhone 3G/S

  • BlackBerry 4.x and later

  • Nokia S60

  • NetFront 3.4, 3.5, and later

  • Opera Mobile 8.65 and later

  • Openwave 6.2, 7.0, and later

In addition to smartphones, you can also view Word and PowerPoint documents on an iPad.
