Where you and Titan venture for your outdoor shoot is entirely up to you. The main points to remember are that the area should be safe and secure, dog-friendly, and somewhat familiar to you. Find places that are safe, especially if you want to take Titan off-leash. Make sure the area is fenced in securely and Titan can’t bolt into traffic, get chased by (or give chase to) wildlife, or just plain run away.
Your best bet for a truly secure area is your own fenced-in yard, so go with that option if you want to go off-leash. If you keep Titan on a leash, however, that gives you a little more security, even in nonsecure areas, and therefore increases your location choices.
Also make sure your chosen location is dog-friendly. That doesn’t just mean that dogs are allowed on the property; select a place that’s friendly to Titan, a place with a ground surface that’s safe for his paws, shady areas for him to take a break, and perhaps some water if you’ll be out for a long time.
Finally, choose low-traffic venues so you can keep Titan’s attention for extended periods of time. If too much is going on, the chance of him getting distracted goes up significantly (as does the probability that strangers will wander into your shots). To make the situation easy on everyone, pick locations that are out of the way or a bit secluded.
No matter how safe you are, you never have a 100 percent guarantee against accidents. Even when your best friend is on-leash in your fenced-in yard, accidents can happen. Always make sure you stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
