How to Crochet a Flared Collar

You can make a crocheted traditional flared collar, which features pointed ends like a standard shirt collar. This crocheted flared collar is typically used on cardigans, pullovers with crew necks, or polo-style sweaters with front openings and plackets.

  1. Join the yarn with a slip stitch in the top right-hand corner of the right front neck edge. Chain (ch) 1.

Be sure to have the right side of the sweater facing you.

  2. Single crochet (sc) from the right front neck edge around to the top left-hand corner stitch of the left front neck edge, turn.

    Create even single crochet stitches.

  3. Chain 1 and then work 2 single crochets in the first single crochet stitch.

  4. Single crochet in each stitch across, ending with 2 single crochets in the last stitch, turn.

Work the extra stitch at both edges of the collar to add the flare to it.

  5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the collar reaches 3 inches deep.

Or crochet until it reaches your desired depth.

  6. Fasten off at the end of the last row.

    Your flared collar is complete!
