Access Exchange Online from Your Outlook E-mail Client

Exchange Online from Office 365 provides a continuously available service that can be accessed from just about anywhere at any time. All you need is an Internet connection and a web browser.

The Outlook application that so many people use day in and day out for e-mail, meetings, tasks, and contacts continues to work the same way with Exchange Online but with some added bonuses. In particular, you get an even tighter integration with the other products that are part of the Office 365 offering.

For example, you may have a task list that is part of SharePoint. To integrate your SharePoint tasks with Outlook, you navigate to the SharePoint Online list and click a button that says Connect To Outlook. Bingo. Your SharePoint tasks now show up in your Outlook Tasks folder.

Exchange Online supports all the standard e-mail protocols, including IMAP, POP, and SMTP. As a result, you can use any e-mail client you like to send and receive e-mail.

If you want advanced functionality, such as calendaring and meetings, contacts, tasks, and advanced e-mail features, such as presence information for contacts, then you need Microsoft Outlook as your e-mail client.
