If you do a lot of file transfers using FTP, Windows can remember the FTP sites you frequent, which saves time when accessing the same FTP site repeatedly. To save an FTP site, follow these steps:
Open the Computer window.
You can open the window by choosing Computer from the Start menu or from the Address bar in any Windows Explorer window.
Right-click in the Computer window and choose Add a Network Location from the shortcut menu.
A wizard opens to help you add the FTP site to your computer’s favorite place for remembering FTP sites: the Computer window.
Click the Next button.
Select the option Choose a Custom Network Location.
Click the Next button.
Type the FTP server address into the text box.
Type the full name, including the ftp:// part.
Click the Next button.
If you’re accessing an anonymous (public) FTP server, keep the check mark by Log On Anonymously and skip to Step 10. Otherwise, remove the check mark.
Enter your username into the User Name box.
Click the Next button.
(Optional) Type a name for the FTP server.
For example, type Work Server or Picture Uploads. The name appears in the My Computer window, under the FTP server’s icon.
Click the Next button.
Click the Finish button to connect to the FTP server and finish the wizard.
After you complete the wizard, the FTP server opens in its own window. If you need to log in with a password, you’re prompted.
After the FTP server is added, you can quickly access it by opening its icon in the Computer window.
